For Creators

Getting started

What is AMA and how does it work for creators? AMA is a platform where your fans pay you to record personal video answers to their questions. They write a question and pay upfront; you have 7 days to record and send your video reply.

Who is AMA for? AMA is built for creators with an existing audience — influencers, experts, coaches, artists, or anyone whose followers come to them with questions. There's no minimum follower count to join, but you'll get the most out of AMA if you already have fans you can share your link with.

Is AMA free to join? Signup is free and paid creator plans include a 7-day trial. To receive paid questions you need an active creator subscription (Creator $29/mo, VIP $49/mo, or Agency with custom pricing). We take no commission — you keep 100% of every completed order.

What countries does AMA support? You can create a profile from anywhere in the world. To receive payouts, you'll need to be in a country that Stripe Connect supports — when you set up payouts, you'll see the current list of available countries.

How long until I can start receiving questions? As soon as you finish onboarding — choosing a username, setting your price, and publishing your profile — you're live and can start sharing your link. You can connect Stripe Connect for payouts later, though doing it early means your earnings are ready to withdraw the moment you complete an order.

Your profile

What goes on my public profile? Your public profile shows your avatar, display name, bio, social links, your price per video, and a "Send message" form fans use to ask their questions (you can see a preview of your profile in “My Ama” tab). Once you start completing replies, it also displays your average rating which helps build trust with new fans.

How do I choose a good username? Pick something short and easy to type — your existing handle on Instagram, TikTok, or YouTube is usually a great choice, since fans will recognize it instantly. Your username becomes your AMA link (ama.is/yourname), so the simpler, the better.

Why is my username not allowed or taken? Some usernames are already in use, and others are reserved for the platform (like "admin", "support", or "login"), so we can't hand those out. If your first choice doesn't work, try a small variation — your initials, a suffix, or however you appear on your main social platform.

Can I change my username later? Yes, you can change it any time from Edit Profile. Just keep in mind that your AMA link changes too, so anyone using your old link won't find you — update your social bios whenever you switch.

If I remove my avatar, will my Google or Apple photo come back? No. Once you remove your avatar, we won't auto-restore the photo from your social login — your profile will show a default placeholder until you upload a new image yourself.

What should I put in my bio? A short line or two that tells fans who you are and what kinds of questions you'd love to get. Mention what you do, what you're known for, and what you can help with — it's the easiest way to set expectations and get great questions instead of vague ones.

What social links can I add to my profile? You can link Instagram, TikTok, Twitter (X), YouTube, Twitch, Snapchat, and your personal website. They appear as small clickable icons on your profile and help fans confirm they're in the right place.

What are profile themes? Profile themes are six color styles that change your accent color and the look of your message cards. Pick the one that matches your vibe or brand — you can switch themes any time without affecting your profile or earnings.

Pricing

How much should I charge? Start at a price you'd be happy spending a few minutes recording a thoughtful reply for — many creators land between $25 and $100 for their first videos. You can raise the price later as demand grows, or lower it if you want more volume.

What's the minimum and maximum I can charge? You can set your price anywhere from $10 to $10,000 per video. Most creators stay well within that range, but high-demand creators sometimes use the upper end to keep volume manageable.

Can I change my price later? Yes — change it any time from Edit Profile. The new price applies to future questions only, so anything already paid for is honored at the price the fan saw.

Can I charge different prices for different fans? Not at the moment — you have one public price that applies to everyone. If demand outpaces what you can answer, raising your price is the cleanest way to filter for the questions most worth your time.

Will I get fewer questions if I raise my price? Usually yes — higher prices reduce volume but raise the quality and intent of each question. The sweet spot is the price that lets you reply to every question you get within the 7-day window.

Receiving questions

How do I know when I get a new question? You'll get an email the moment a fan sends a paid question, plus a classic red dot on your chat tab - showing an unread message.

How long do I have to reply? You have 7 days from when the question is paid to record and send your video. If you don't reply in time, the fan is automatically refunded and the order closes.

Can I see who sent the question? You'll see the name a fan chose to display, unless they decided to ask anonymously — then you'll just see "Anonymous". Either way, you only ever see what the fan chose to share with you.

Can I decline a question? What happens to the fan? Yes — you can decline any question that's not something you can or want to answer. The fan is fully refunded right away, and the order closes; no charge to them, no money to you.

Will I be reminded before the deadline? Yes — if a question hasn't been answered by day 6, we send you a reminder email so you don't accidentally let it expire. The reminder takes you straight to the question.

Can I get more time to reply? The 7-day deadline is fixed so fans always know when to expect a video or a refund. If something genuinely unexpected comes up, the cleanest move is to decline the question (the fan is refunded immediately) and ask them to resend it once you're back.

Recording your video reply

Can I upload a video from my phone or computer? Yes — upload any video you've recorded on your device from the Video Reply screen in your chat. Most creators record on their phone for that personal, in-the-moment feel, but anything that looks and sounds clean works great.

Is there a length limit on the video? There's a high upper limit, so you don't have to worry about running over. Most great replies fall between 30 seconds and 2 minutes — keep it as long as the question deserves and not a second longer.

Can I replace the video before sending it? Yes — until you send the reply, you can re-upload a different video as many times as you like. Once you hit send, the video is delivered to the fan and the order moves to completion.

Does the fan see my reply before I send it? No — only you can preview the video while you're working on it. The fan only sees it once you finalize and send the reply.

What happens after I send my video? The fan receives an email with a link to watch the video, the payment is captured, and your earnings start moving toward your payout. The order goes to "Review" briefly, then to "Done" once everything's processed.

What makes a good video reply? Greet the fan by name (or acknowledge an anonymous question), look into the camera, and answer like you would in a personal voice note — that personal touch is what fans pay for. Clean background, clear audio, focused answer; that's the whole formula.

Earnings & payouts

How much does AMA take from each order? Nothing — you keep 100% of every video you send. Receiving questions requires a creator subscription (from $29/mo; 7-day free trial available).

When do I actually get paid? The fan's payment is captured the moment you send your video. From there, your share moves either straight to your Stripe Connect payout account or onto your AMA balance, depending on how you've set up withdrawals.

What is Stripe Connect, and do I need it? Stripe Connect is the payments service that sends your earnings to your bank account. You don't need it to start receiving questions, but you'll need it to actually withdraw your money out of AMA.

What if I haven't connected Stripe Connect yet? Your earnings stay safely on your AMA balance. Once you connect Stripe Connect, future earnings can flow straight to your bank, and you can also withdraw whatever's already on your balance.

What's the difference between "Available" and "Pending"? "Available" is money Stripe has cleared and is ready to pay out. "Pending" is money still in the standard processing window — usually a couple of days before it becomes available.

How long does a withdrawal take? Withdrawals from Stripe Connect typically arrive in 2 to 7 business days, depending on your country and bank. Stripe sets the schedule, and you can see exact timing in your Stripe Express dashboard.

How do I withdraw from my internal balance? Open the Earnings page to see your balance and start a withdrawal — you'll need Stripe Connect connected so the funds have a destination. Once requested, the money follows Stripe's normal payout timeline.

Are there any fees besides your plan? No — AMA takes no commission on fan payments. Creator plans start at $29/mo (VIP $49/mo; Agency (custom pricing)), with a 7-day free trial. Standard Stripe payout fees may apply when money moves from Stripe to your bank, which depend on your country and are set by Stripe.

Does AMA report my income for taxes? You're responsible for reporting and paying taxes on what you earn through AMA. Stripe handles the tax forms based on your country and earnings — for example, U.S. creators may receive a 1099 form once they cross the reporting threshold.

Refunds, disputes & chargebacks

What happens if I miss the 7-day deadline? The fan is automatically refunded in full and the order closes. No money changes hands either way — but missed deadlines can hurt your stats and your fan's experience, so it's worth replying or declining the moment you know you can't take it on.

What if a fan asks for a refund after I sent the video? You can choose to refund them voluntarily. If the refund happens after you've already been paid out, the amount becomes a balance you owe AMA, which we collect from your next earnings.

What's a chargeback? A chargeback is when a fan disputes the charge with their bank instead of asking us for a refund — the bank pulls the money back from AMA. Chargebacks are rare, but when they happen the disputed amount comes back the same way as a refund.

A fan is disputing my reply — what do I do? Reach out to AMA support and share the details of the order so we can review it together. We look at both sides before any refund is issued, and your context matters when you've delivered the reply honestly.

Sharing your profile

What's the best way to share my AMA? Your profile URL is your share link — copy it from the top of your profile and paste it anywhere your fans already follow you. The page renders nice preview cards on Instagram, Twitter, and in messages, so a single link is usually enough.

Where should I post my AMA link? Wherever your audience hangs out — Instagram or TikTok bio, pinned tweet, YouTube description, and link-in-bio tools all work well. The single best spot is usually your most engaged platform's bio link, since that's where curiosity converts into questions. Also it works to post the link in your “stories” right when you are ready to take questions.

Will AMA promote my profile for me? AMA isn't a discovery platform — there's no feed, search, or recommendations, so your fans find you through your own channels. The upside is that everyone who lands on your profile is already there for you, not for someone an algorithm picked.

Is there a referral program? Not right now. If we add one in the future, you'll see it announced on your dashboard.

Vacation mode & blocking

What is vacation mode? Vacation mode pauses new orders on your profile while keeping it public — fans can still see your page, but the "Send message" form is replaced with a note saying you're not taking questions right now. Use it whenever you need a break without taking your profile down.

What happens to existing questions while I'm in vacation mode? Vacation mode only affects new questions — the ones already in your inbox keep their normal 7-day countdown. If you need a clean break, decline anything you can't get to so the fans are refunded before you go.

Can I block a fan? When should I? Yes — you can block a specific fan from any of their messages in your chat. Blocking stops them from sending you new questions; use it when someone's being disrespectful, spamming, or clearly trying to misuse the platform.

Can a blocked person still see my profile? Yes — your profile stays public, so anyone can view it, but a blocked person won't be able to send a new question. Blocking is silent on their side; they aren't notified.

Account & privacy

How do I change my email? In Settings, enter your new email and we'll send a confirmation link to verify it before the change takes effect. Until you confirm, your old email stays active so you don't lose access to your account.

Which notifications can I turn off? In Settings, you can switch off order updates (new questions, status changes) and the AMA newsletter independently. Critical account messages — password changes, refunds, security alerts — can't be disabled, since they protect your account.

How do I delete my account? Head to Settings → Delete account and confirm via email. Your profile goes offline immediately and you'll no longer appear publicly — we keep limited records like completed orders for legal and tax reasons, but you're removed from anywhere fans can find you.

What happens to my orders if I delete my account? Any in-progress orders need to wrap up first — by sending the videos, declining them, or letting them auto-refund — since fans have already paid. Once your account is deleted, completed orders stay in our records to comply with payment and tax rules.

Is my data shared with Stripe or anyone else? We share what's needed for the service to work: your payment details with Stripe so you can get paid, your email with our delivery partner so you receive notifications. We don't sell your data and we don't share it for advertising.

For Fans

What AMA is

What is AMA? AMA is a platform where you can pay creators for personal video answers to your questions. Whether it's advice, feedback on your work, a celebration message, or a deep-dive question only one person can really answer — AMA gets you a real reply from a real person.

How does AMA work? You visit a creator's AMA profile, write your question, and pay. The creator has 7 days to record and send a personal video reply — and if they don't, you're refunded automatically.

Is AMA safe to use? Yes. Payments are processed securely through Stripe, your card details are never shared with creators, and your money is held until your video is delivered (or refunded if it isn't). You can also choose to ask anonymously if you'd rather not share your name.

Do I need an account to ask a question? You don't need to actively sign up — we create an account for you automatically when you enter your email at checkout. There's no profile or password to set up; the email is all we need to deliver your video and keep track of your order.

How do I find a creator on AMA? Creators share their own AMA links on social media — typically in their Instagram or TikTok bio, pinned tweet, or YouTube description. AMA isn't a discovery platform, so the link from a creator you already follow is the way in.

Asking a question

How do I ask a creator a question? Open their AMA profile, write your question in the message box, choose whether to include your name or stay anonymous, and click through to pay. As soon as your payment goes through, your question lands in the creator's inbox and the 7-day reply timer starts.

Is there a character limit? Yes — you have 500 characters, which is plenty for most questions. Use the space to give the creator enough context to give you a great, specific answer.

Can I ask anonymously? Yes — there's an "Ask anonymously" toggle on the message form. The creator will see "Anonymous" instead of any name when your question arrives.

Will the creator see my real name if I choose anonymous? No. If you toggle anonymous, the creator never sees your name. AMA keeps internal records for moderation and safety, but those aren't visible to the creator.

Can I include a link or a photo? The message is text-only — up to 500 characters. You can mention a URL inline if it adds context, but creators can't view photos or videos you share, since attachments aren't supported right now.

How do I write a question that gets a great answer? Be specific and personal — say a bit about who you are, why you're asking, and what kind of answer would help. Open-ended questions usually get better videos than yes/no ones, since they give the creator more to work with.

Can I edit my question after sending it? No — once you submit and pay, the question goes straight to the creator and can't be changed. If you realize you made a mistake, your best option is to ask the creator to decline that question (you'll be refunded) and send a new one.

Payment

When does my card actually get charged? Only once the creator sends your video. Until then the amount is held — visible on your card as a pending charge — but not actually taken from your account. If the creator declines or doesn't reply in time, the hold simply releases and you're not charged at all.

Why is there a hold on my card? The hold reserves the amount of your order so the funds are confirmed for when the creator delivers. It's not the same as being charged — if your order is canceled or refunded, the hold disappears and the money stays in your account.

What payment methods can I use? You can pay with major credit and debit cards through Stripe Checkout. Depending on your country, Apple Pay, Google Pay, and other local methods may also appear as options at checkout.

Why was my payment declined? Declines usually come from your bank — most often because of an incorrect detail (number, expiry, or CVC), insufficient funds, or your bank flagging it as an unfamiliar charge. Try the same card again, contact your bank to authorize it, or use a different card.

I got a "payment failed" email — what now? A "payment failed" email means your card couldn't be charged — usually a temporary issue with your bank. Just open the creator's profile and send your question again; if it fails a second time, try a different card or check with your bank.

Will the creator see my payment details? No — your card details are handled entirely by Stripe and are never shared with creators. They only see your question, your price, and the name (or "Anonymous") you chose.

What currency am I paying in? Prices on AMA are listed in U.S. dollars. Your bank converts to your local currency at checkout based on its current exchange rate; any conversion fees come from your bank, not from AMA.

Content rules

What can I ask about? Anything you'd genuinely like the creator to answer — career advice, feedback on your work, a tough decision, a fun message for a friend, a celebration, or a deep-dive question on something they're known for. Personal, specific, and curious questions get the best replies.

What's not allowed? Hate speech, threats, harassment, sexual or explicit content, spam, and requests for personal information (like phone numbers or addresses). Disagreement and tough questions are fine — just keep things respectful and avoid anything that crosses into harm or harassment.

My message was rejected — why? Every message is reviewed by our content moderation system before payment, and yours was flagged for likely violating our content rules. If you think it was rejected by mistake, edit the question to remove anything that could be read as threatening, sexual, or hateful — and try again.

Was I charged if my message was rejected? No. Messages are checked before payment, so a rejected message means no charge ever happens. Your card is only ever held or charged after a question is accepted.

Waiting for your reply

How long does the creator have to reply? Creators have 7 days from when your question is paid to record and send your video. If they don't reply within that window, you're automatically refunded — no action needed on your side.

How will I know when the video is ready? We'll send you an email as soon as the creator sends your video, with a link to watch it right away. Most creators reply well before the 7-day deadline, so keep an eye on your inbox in the days after asking.

What if the creator doesn't reply in time? If 7 days pass without a video, your order is automatically canceled and you're refunded in full — no need to chase anyone or fill out a form. The hold on your card is released back to your account.

Can I check the status of my order? The emails we send you are the easiest way to track an order — confirmation when it's submitted, updates when things change, and the final video link when it's ready. If you ever lose track, the details are linked from those emails.

Watching your video

Where do I find my video? You'll get an email titled "Your video reply is ready" with a link straight to your video. Click the link to watch any time — there's no separate app or login required.

How long is the video available? Your video stays available indefinitely, so you can come back to it whenever you want. Save the email or bookmark the link to always have it on hand.

Can I download or save it? Yes — the video is yours to keep. Bookmark the link from the email, or use your device or browser's normal save options to keep a local copy.

Can I share the video? Yes — share it however you like, whether that's with friends, on social media, or anywhere else. The only thing you can't do is use it for commercial purposes like selling, advertising, or marketing — for that, you'd need the creator's permission.

The link doesn't work — what should I do? First, make sure you're opening the link directly from the original email and not a copy that may have been cut off. If it's still not loading, reach out to AMA support with your order details and we'll send you a fresh link.

Refunds

When do I get a refund automatically? You're refunded automatically if the creator declines your question, or if 7 days pass without a video. In both cases you don't have to do anything — the refund is issued on its own and we'll email you when it's done.

How long does a refund take to land? Most refunds appear within 5 to 10 business days, depending on your bank. The hold on your card may release sooner if the order was canceled before the payment was charged.

Can I request a refund myself? If something feels off about your video, reach out to AMA support and we'll review it. We can't promise a refund in every case, but we always look at both what was asked and what was delivered.

The video wasn't what I asked for — can I get my money back? If the reply truly doesn't address your question or there's a serious problem with it, contact AMA support with your order details and the issue. Each case is reviewed individually — small differences of expectation aren't usually grounds for a refund, but real misses are.

I don't see the refund on my card yet — what now? Refunds usually appear within 5 to 10 business days. If it's been longer than that, check the recent transactions on your statement (the refund may show as a separate line rather than reversing the original charge), and contact your bank if it's still missing.

Rating your creator

How do I rate a creator? After watching your video, you'll see an option to rate the creator on the same page. A rating is a quick way to tell other fans whether the experience was worth it.

Can I change a rating I left? Yes, you can change the rating.

When something goes wrong

The creator hasn't replied and I'm worried — what do I do? Most replies come well before day 7, but creators sometimes take the full window. If the deadline passes without a video, you're automatically refunded — there's no need to chase the creator or contact us first.

I think the video isn't really from the creator. Reach out to AMA support and share the order details. We take impersonation seriously — if something feels off about a video, we'll investigate and refund you if there's a real issue.

I want to report a video or message. If a video or message you received violates our content rules — hateful speech, threats, harassment, or anything else inappropriate — email AMA support with the order details and a short note about the issue. We'll review it.

I want to dispute the charge with my bank. If something went wrong, please contact AMA support first — most issues can be resolved with a refund directly from us, which is faster than a bank dispute. Bank disputes also create complications for the creator, so we'd always rather hear from you first.

How do I contact AMA support? You can reach us at support@ama.is — include details or the email used at checkout so we can find your order quickly. We aim to reply within one business day.

Account & privacy

Do I have an account on AMA as a fan? Yes — when you place your first order, an account is created automatically and tied to your email. There's no profile or password to manage; the account is just how AMA delivers your videos, keeps track of your orders, and prevents misuse.

How do I see my past orders? Your orders are in the chat tab of your account, or you can also find them in confirmation and video-ready emails. If you can't find an email, contact AMA support with your details and we'll help you locate the order.

How do I change my email? If you'd like to use a different email for future orders, just enter the new one when you place your next order — Stripe Checkout uses whichever email you provide. For email changes on a current order, contact AMA support and we'll update it for you.

How do I delete my account or my data? You can request deletion of your AMA records at any time by emailing AMA support with the email address you used for orders. We'll remove your data in line with our privacy policy, while keeping the minimum required for legal and tax purposes (such as completed-order receipts).
